Gradually, Tesiera's wounds healed, and with each passing day, she regained her strength. Her bandages were removed, the gash in her thigh had healed, and her sprained ankle, although slower to recover, eventually allowed her to walk without a limp. Finally, she could resume her duties as Max's bodyguard, accompanying him to work at the hospital and conducting routine checks with Bose and Clinton.

Her gym equipment, previously locked away, was brought back. The day Max gave her the green light to start training again and use the gym, she waited until Bose and Clinton had left the room before grabbing Max and kissing him passionately on the lips. Max smiled, knowing how much she had missed those moments.

“Someone's finally smiling,” Clinton remarked with a snort when he saw her working out that day.

“Yeah, no thanks to you,” she muttered as she completed a round of shoulder presses.

“Oh, come on, you've got to forgive me,” he pleaded. “I was helping you.”

Tesiera had forgiven him a while ago, and if she was honest, he had indeed been helping her, even though he had lifted her up so embarrassingly. “You didn't have to hoist me up like that,” she said, giving him a scowl.

“That again? But I've apologized countless times!”

“Fine,” she muttered.

Clinton beamed widely at her agreement and playfully elbowed her. “That's my Torturer. So, who's your favorite guy again?”

“Not you; that's for sure.” Tesiera shot back but a small smile graced her lips.

“Liar, liar, Torturer on fire,” he said in a singsong voice.

Tesiera shook her head in exasperation. “You're such a child,” she said, and Clinton burst out laughing.

They worked out together, Clinton getting on her nerves all through it. But Tesiera enjoyed sparring with him, so she let it go. Sparring with Clinton was never boring; for all his quirks, he was a well-trained fighter and a worthy opponent.

And while they trained, Bose spent the day with Max in his office, both guarding him and assisting with his work.

The following day, they were getting ready to go to the hospital when Max announced they had a house call instead. There was an emergency, and they were urgently needed at Senator MacDonald's residence.

Bose muttered a curse under his breath. “We'll be ready to go soon, boss,” he said, hanging up the phone. Turning to Tesiera, he took a deep breath. “The senator is a good man, but his daughter is quite a handful.”

“His daughter?” Tesiera inquired.

“The boss's ex, Mira,” Clinton grumbled before leaving the bedroom. Bose followed closely behind.

Tesiera scowled. She recalled the woman vividly. The arrogant supermodel who had waltzed into Max's home and acted as if she owned the place.

Tesiera hadn't forgotten how she got overly familiar with Max, touching him, as though Max belonged to her. Mira was not only a supermodel but also the daughter of a senator. No wonder Max dated her. After all, Max was also rich and influential.

And she—well, she was a ruthless killer. Kamira McDonald possessed beauty, power, a first-class education, and a feminine elegance that she didn't have.
